Saudi EFL Learners’ Difficulties in Academic Writing: A Case Study of Al-Baha University
Abstract
This study examines the academic writing difficulties that Saudi undergraduates encounter in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes at Al-Baha University. It explores vocabulary limitations, grammatical errors, and organizational issues. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to understand these difficulties comprehensively. Findings reveal key challenges, including linguistic transfer from Arabic to English and limited exposure to academic writing practices. The study recommends strategies such as targeted feedback and the development of specific writing skills to address these issues. It contributes to the literature by offering context-specific insights and practical recommendations for improving academic writing instruction, with implications for curriculum development and pedagogy in comparable EFL settings.
